My random tidbits from throughout the week:
I am trying out a new saddle, which is like sitting on rocks. I bought a Specialized Luna seat from someone in our tri club for $50 and have been trying it out for a week; the first time was ok, the second time was a long ride and my butt was really starting to hurt by the end, and a few days ago I almost called it quits: I attempted to start a trainer ride and couldn't even sit on the saddle. So I swapped it out for my old one, but 30 minutes into that session, my feet started to go numb and I was soooo uncomfortable. I think I'm going to stick with the new seat and hope that I can build up some butt callouses.
I'm headed up to wine country tomorrow for a ride and my first transition run of the season. It's supposed to be 70 and sunny; can't wait.
Swim is going swimmingly. I consistently hit some intervals today that I seriously doubt I could have done a week ago. Master's class is really helping; the coach is pretty good about technique pointers. Apparently my right arm pull is now "perfect" but my left arm still needs some work. Think I'll stay late after master's on Monday and attempt some flip turns.
My hamstring is surprisingly pain-free today. I say "surprisingly" because I gave it a good workout yesterday in TRX class and I rode some good hills today. Maybe that's what it needed; someone to show it who's boss. Stretching my hip flexors 2x per day has also been helping a lot.
Oh, speaking of TRX: we had a ridiculously enthusiastic (overcaffeinated?) TRX substitute teacher yesterday morning who kicked our butts. It was great, and (even better) I'm not that sore today. I jumped rope for the first time since I was about 10, which was fun. And I'm now on a mission to boost my count on Atomic Push-ups.
I am no longer in the mood to go out and consume alcohol on weekends. I went to our tri club happy hour tonight, lasted an hour, and just wanted to come home and make a healthy dinner. So here I am on a Friday night, perfectly content to update my blog and go to bed early. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of our great weather this weekend until the rains come back on Monday.
Happy training!
I have heard the Adamo saddles are great.
You really shouldn't have to "build up butt calluses"
when riding a bike. Find a saddle that works for you.
The women's Selle Italia is another good choice for many. Find a bike store that will let you try them out before purchase! Happy saddle hunting!
