You can tell from the title of this post that my shoulder has not gotten better. It started improving last month and so I put off the MRI, but then it took a turn for the worse. So yesterday I found myself in the MRI machine as it loudly grinded and clacked and knocked and buzzed, wondering how the heck people fall asleep in these things... and then, sure enough, the technician woke me up with, "Ok, we're all done here."
In the 2+ months since my shoulder's been out of whack, I now can run again without pain (although my run fitness is hovering around 4 miles max... amazing how fast it declines!). But now I can't ride as it hurts to lean my weight on the handlebars. Definitelly cannot ride in aero. And of course I can't swim. But hey, I can run! I am going to get off this slug-train I've been on, and start training for the Kaiser half in early February.
Wednesday I take off for Florida... since I had to cancel my participation in the Miami 70.3, my mom and I are going to take a short weekend cruise to the Bahamas instead. I'm sure it will be touristy and full of kids, but hey, I get some time on a boat in the sun and get some mom/daughter bonding time. Good enough. When I get back I'll meet with my doctor to see what the MRI revealed and then (I'm sure) start PT.
Hopefully I can get this healed up by early March as I'd love to do Wildflower again. I'm not sure about my plans to do another 70.3 next year, but a couple Olympic distances and a focus on long running is definitely on tap. Although at some point I do have a score to settle with the 70.3 distance; I know I can do better.
