And I'm not talking vitamins. Yes folks, I have finally joined the exclusive club of 2x/day training sessions. Not because I'm putting in Ironman hours, but this is the first time I've trained while maintaining a full-time job at an actual office.
I thought I'd have a tough time with this, given that I had tons of flexibility last year when I worked from home. But the funny thing is, I am now a lot more disciplined about getting it done. Last year I could do my workouts pretty much whenever. So if I wasn't entirely ready by 10 am, I could push to after lunch. Or after a nap. And it usually got done, but sometimes it got pushed. I was pretty la-la-la about making it happen. (I know, a Western tragedy, right?)
Now, however, I have to be a lot more structured. And I like it. I'm still gradually working my way towards "early morning", ie. 5:30. It's not happening yet. So I did my easy run this morning which is a great way to get the blood pumping, and my (ridiculously hard, laughing and swear-word evoking) trainer session after work. And I know that if I don't get it done within x narrow window(s) of time, it's not getting done. So I get 'er done.
I know, you guys with full-time jobs are reading this going '"geez Jen, we know how this works..." but it's been rather surprising to me. I thought I'd miss the flexibility but I actually don't. I'm now more focused, more on-task. Like they always say, if you want something done, give it to a busy person.
Oh, and I bought one of these babies to help me wake up earlier. I've always wanted one, and now that I have to get up at crack'o it rose to my must-have list:
It's the Philips Wake-Up Light. I LOVE IT. Agreed, it's rather pricey for an alarm clock, but I wake up naturally as it gradually brightens my room. And then birds start chirping after it reaches full brightness. Seriously... it's awesome. I get out of bed so much easier in the mornings.
Will have to get this for my daughter who just can't wake up to alarms for anything!
Have been getting up at 5 and out the door by 5:30 before work for many, many years. It's now a habit and I don't feel "awake" if I haven't had my before work workout. It will be that way for you too, if you stick with it!
